Long live ThinApp!

with 3 comments

Next to the Horizon Suite, VMware also announced some news about the enterprise virtualization software ThinApp. First of all: It is still there and it will be there! Don’t get it wrong! VMware just announced that effective on December 15th 2013 no orders for the ThinApp standalone product will be accepted. The customers with an active SnS contract (Support & Subscription) will still receive maintenance and support for their licenses. From 16th December on ThinApp will live in VMware Horizon View, VMware Horizon Mirage, VMware Horizon Workspace and in the Horizon Suite. There are also migration paths available – please speak to your VMware rep.

So, ThinApp is still there but it will be bundled with other VMware solutions!

Makes sense, I don’t know many/any who were using it without View.

    Hi Michael,

yes, there are loads of customers I know in Germany who’re using ThinApp for their physical desktops and Citrix XenApp servers. But as you say it just makes sense to bundle it into each product. Great news to me! Let’s wait for the pricing and I guess it will be brilliant!

    Regards.

Ah, I guess I should clarify. I don’t know people using ThinApp who license it without also having View. Most of the implementations I go into we start out with ThinApp in a VDI setup, and they start realizing all the other places it can be used as well and start utilizing it on desktops as well. (Incorporating it with XenApp is an interesting idea.)

I’m sure there are people who bought into it before it was a licensed feature of the View bundle, I’ve just not met them. :)
