Configure Proxy settings for virtualized Internet Explorer 8

without comments

In a Thinapp application virtualization project my two colleagues @SaschaThiede and @timarenz had a challenge with the Windows proxy server settings when virtualizing Internet Explorer 8. Actually the didn’t virtualize Internet Explorer, they only ran it in the virtual bubble as an entry point. The virtual package includes Adobe Flash as this component should be isolated from the operating system. During the project the figured out that when only virtualizing the package and not customizing the configuration, the proxy server settings got overwritten by the system settings every time.

Here are the steps:

  1. Run pre capture
  2. Configure Internet Explorer and set a dummy proxy server
  3. Configure a Internet Explorer entry point during Post-Capture
  4. Run Post-Capture
  5. Customize the HKCU.txt and use the settings from this Microsoft KB: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/819961
  6. Settings in the HKCU.txt should look similar to this: http://www.thatsmyview.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/HKCU.txt
  7. Run Build

Thanks guys! Great work and it will be helpful for loads of people.
