Q550 + USB PR07 Port Replicator = Cool mobile device & great Thin Client
Weekend, vacation and it’s raining. A good time to play with the geek toys. Yesterday the USB port replicator arrived and I was really surprised. I only knew port replicators where I can connect my laptop via a special port, more like a docking station. This one here is a USB replicator which is connected to the computer via a standard USB cable. It offers you a USB hub, but also audio connectors (3,5”), Ethernet and also a DVI connector. This is really cool because I can use the DVI with the integrated DisplayLink technology to connect my tablet and use my 27” LCD display as a monitor.
I didn’t expected it to be so easy. Just plug and play, driver installation and ready to go. My new thin client! Now I can use the tablet on travel with my installed applications + cloud applications and when I’m at home it is my thin client for connecting to my VMware View Desktop.
This option is way better because I can use a proper keyboard and mouse now. Much easier than using the touch display and pen when working on a virtual desktop.
