What’s the SviInternalDisk?
People on the forums were asking what the SviInternalDisk is and to be honest I didn’t have a clue. After some researching and talking to the right people I finally got the answer. When using linked clones from View Composer version 2.0 on there are three hard disks created. The OSDisk, SviDataDisk and the SviInternalDisk. We know the first two from previous versions but what about the SviInternalDisk?
Here is the answer:
“View Composer adds a small disk to the linked clone desktops it provisions. The disk is 10 MB in size. The data stored on this disk is in KBs but the disk is 10 MB as it is minimum size that can be safely NTFS formatted. View Composer uses it to store QuickPrep data. In previous version, this data used to go to UDD if the desktop had one. Otherwise the data used to go on System disk and at every recompose/refresh View Composer used to push it again to system disk. Copying data from server to a VM disk is an expensive operation. Putting data on a separate disk frees up clutter on UDD. It also attaches QuickPrep data to VM and not to UDD which is tied to a user. Also, as the data is not on System disk, it doesn’t have to be pushed at each refresh/recompse.”
