vCenter permissions for the View Manager user

without comments

The easiest way to configure the View Manager with the VMware vCenter is to use the Administrator account however this is mostly not the best choice. Companies want to use special service or administration account with the maximum permissions needed instead of using a all-permission-user.

To create a role for this user please select the Administration button in the vCenter Console and click on the Roles tab. Add a new role and set a name i.e. View Administrator. In the list of privileges expand the item Folder and select Create Folder and Delete Folder then expand Virtual Machine. Next expand Inventory and select Create and Remove Within Interaction click Power On, Power Off, Suspend and Reset. In Configuration select Add new disk, Add or Remove device, Modify device settings and advanced. On the Provisioning item you have to select Customize, Deploy Template and Read Customization specification. The last step is to expand Resource and select Assign Virtual machine to Resource Pool.

After you’ve clicked OK the new role will appear in the roles list. Assign this rule to your dedicated View Administrator account.
