Easily managing Server/Client/Agent option with GPO’s

without comments

When browsing the file system on the View connection server you’ll find four ADM files in the server’s program files directory: C:\Program Files\VMware View\Server\Extras\GroupPolicyFiles. With those files you can easily manage the View Server, View Client and View agent configuration settings.

The folder contains the ADM templates offering interesting options which are mostly not configurable through the GUI. In the screenshot you can see the standard ADM file.

To manage your View environment with these templates just open a Microsoft Management Console (Start/Run, type mmc and press enter) and add the Group Policy Object Editor as shown below.

Afterwards navigate to Computer or User configuration / Administrative Templates and right click. Through All Tasks you are able to Add a GPO template. Goto the View connection server program files directory and select the wanted ADM files.

After selecting the template you’ll see it in the Currect Policy Templates lists. Just click on close to end this dialog.

Below Administrative Templates in the tree you will find VMware View {Client, Agent, Server} Configuration. The computer configuration is machine based, the user configuration user-based. Please bare that in mind when configuring the policies.

The templates offer loads of interesting options such as allowing or prohibiting the direct access to a virtual desktop via a non-VMware RDP client.

Each entry has a description which will help you to learn more about the configurable options.
